REBO partners with adidas and Parley for the Oceans

Every minute, the equivalent of a dump truck of plastic waste enters our oceans. This plastic pollution endangers marine life and human existence alike. At this rate, by 2050 there could be more plastic than fish in our oceans, which is why urgent action is needed today. Time is running up and it is clear we need to step up close cooperation with individuals and organizations fighting for the same cause such as Adidas x Rebo smart bottle: ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come. 

Since 2015, adidas has made more than 30 million pairs of shoes with Parley Ocean Plastic – plastic waste intercepted on beaches and coastal communities, preventing it from polluting the oceans. But whilst progress has been made on the journey towards a more sustainable future, there is still work to be done in reducing marine plastic pollution.  We need more participation from organizations, industry leaders, and governments to drive real change toward sustainability. It is also important to continue to spread awareness among people about plastic pollution, one of the most severe environmental problems affecting our oceans.

Empowering runners worldwide to make a difference, for every kilometer ran between May 28 – June 8 via the adidas Running app (Strava/Joyrun), adidas and Parley will clean up the equivalent weight of 10 plastic bottles, up to a maximum of 500,000 lbs of marine plastic waste from beaches, remote islands, and coastlines.

Adidas is joining forces with REBO in order to strengthen its vision to end plastic waste, creating a limited edition bottle adidas x REBO. The Rebo Adidas will come in the iconic Run For The Ocean Glory Blue and 250 pieces will be available for sale on June 8th at midnight on selected adidas website: UK, Germany and France.

About the REBO x Adidas smart bottle

At REBO, we are convinced that technology can be an important driving factor of the change we all seek; that is why we have redesigned the conventional reusable bottle to not only avoid the use of plastic but also to make a positive impact on the environment as well. The Adidas Rebo bottle is the result of an important collaboration between the REBO company and a sports-leading organization; A combined effort that seeks to reduce plastic waste from the oceans. The reusable smart bottle is meant to empower you as an individual to make a positive change on the planet; it also sends a powerful message about the importance of hydration and how we can accomplish great things through sports and cooperation.

REBO’s interconnected technology embedded in the cap tracks the water you drink, the plastic bottles avoided, and issues plastic credits to pay the cost of collecting tossed-away plastic bottles. This is achieved by blending technology with goodwill from our allies at Parley Global Cleanup Group and Gold Standard. Here’s how it works:

The REBO water bottle will track your daily water intake by means of the hydration tracker on its cap, and it will send the information to the REBO App via Bluetooth technology. The app creates a personalized hydration plan according to various parameters including weight, age, gender, and activity level. With the information received from the bottle, the App knows how much water you have drunk and how many REBOs you need to drink to accomplish your daily hydration goal. It will even send you reminders via phone messages and a led ring on the bottle in case you are falling short on your goal.

For every 600ml REBO bottle you drink, you receive one plastic bottle credit certified by Gold Standard. The credits are bought by our sponsors to fund the removal of plastic waste from beaches, remote islands, rivers, mangroves, and high seas, and intercept ocean-bound plastics in coastal communities. In addition to plastic removal, our sustainable activity helps create more jobs in undermined communities and creates awareness about plastic pollution.

For even better results, the REBO app is able to compensate for the calories lost during your running or cardiovascular activity by synching to the Runtastic Adidas Running app to dynamically recommend optimal hydration needs.
